*The House and Senate are both on recess this week. For those interested in making calls early this week, we will focus today on the tax bill and tomorrow on DACA, and then put our calls on hiatus for the holiday.

1) Today is the last day to order our Indivisible T- shirts for this campaign!

2) Use Indivisible’s peer to peer calling tool to make calls to someone in a key red state to urge them to call their MoCs to say no to the tax scam!

Congressman Smith’s “no” vote on the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, HR 1, was not enough to stop its passage in the House. Moving to the Senate, Republican leaders have made the tax bill even worse by proposing to include a repeal of the ACA’s individual mandate, which according to the CBO would result in 13 million fewer people having health insurance, and would drive up insurance premiums for many Americans by roughly 10 percent. The Senate is expected to start voting on their version of the tax bill on Monday Nov. 27. If the Senate manages to get its Tax Scam bill through, the House will vote again, almost immediately, this time on the Senate version. The House will almost surely vote on whatever the Senate passes. That’s why we have to make sure that we stop the Senate from passing its TrumpCare/Tax Scam bill.

1) Let’s start calling Congressman Smith’s office in D.C. at 202-225-3765 around 10:00AM

Caller:  I am a constituent of Rep. Smith’s; may I please speak with the staffer who handles budgetary concerns?

I am calling with my strong opposition to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act which passed through the House last week. I thank Rep. Smith for voting against this harmful bill which benefits the ultra-wealthy and corporations while providing minimal benefits to most middle-class households. The Senate now intends to make the bill even worse by including a repeal of the ACA’s individual mandate in their tax bill, which will result in millions losing coverage and increased premiums. Will Rep. Smith commit to voting against the tax bill if it returns to the House, and using his senior position in Congress to urge his fellow MOC to vote no and defeat the bill? Thank you.

2) Let’s start calling our Senators (Booker D.C. 202-224-3224, Newark 973-639-8700; Menendez D.C. 202-224-4744, Newark 973-645-3030) around 10:00AM

Caller: Hello, I am a constituent of the Senator’s; may I please speak with the staffer who handles budgetary concerns?

I am calling with my strong opposition to the Republican tax bill which provides massive tax cuts for the wealthiest 1% and corporations. Even worse, it includes a repeal of the ACA’s individual mandate which will result in millions losing coverage and increased premiums. I appreciate that the Senator has publicly stated his opposition, but I’m asking for him to do more. Will the Senator commit to withholding consent on votes or filibustering in the Senate so that we have time to mobilize against this bill?  It’s not enough just to vote no, the Senator needs to actively work to slow down the Trump Tax Scam and expose it for the scam it is. Democrats started withholding consent during the health care fight—and it worked. That’s what I want to see again here. Thank you.
