CALL TOPIC: Yesterday the House passed another short term month long spending bill that did not include the DREAM Act, yet again kicking the can down the road. The Senate votes today, and this bill requires at least eight Democratic senators to vote yes, giving Democrats crucial leverage—AGAIN. That means we have another opportunity to stand up for the most vulnerable among us: immigrants at risk of deportation, children, and communities rebuilding after natural disasters.
1) Let’s call Congressman Smith’s office in D.C. at 202-225-3765…
Caller: Hello, I am a constituent of Rep. Smith’s ; may I speak with the staffer who handles Budgetary issues?
I am disappointed that Rep. Smith voted yesterday to pass another short term spending bill (continuing resolution or CR) that does not include the DREAM Act. Nearly 122 DACA recipients lose their protective DACA status every day that the DREAM Act is not passed. The spending bill also did not include disaster relief for Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. These funding needs have been unmet for far too long, and millions of people are suffering as a result. Can Rep. Smith explain his vote to deport Dreamers and leave Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands without the support they so desperately need?
2)Let’s call our Senators (Booker D.C. 202-224-3224, Newark 973-639-8700; Menendez D.C. 202-224-4744, Newark 973-645-3030)…

I am calling to express my support for the DREAM Act and the hundreds of thousands of Dreamers whose lives are on the line. I ask that you ensure that a clean DREAM Act is included in the budget resolution today to fund the government and that you vote AGAINST any proposal that does not include a clean DREAM Act. Any funding for a divisive border wall should be removed.
I also ask that the Senator use this opportunity to secure funding for CHIP as well as real relief for Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. These funding needs have been unmet for far too long, and millions of people are suffering as a result.
Will the Senator commit to voting against the January 19 funding bill (continuing resolution or CR) if it does not include the DREAM Act, funding for CHIP, and disaster relief for Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands and removal of funding for an atrocious border wall?
