Congress has a duty to guard against abuses of the Executive Branch and must enact protections for the Special Counsel’s office. MOC can co-sponsor legislation to protect against a Mueller firing: S. 1735/ H.R. 3654 the Special Counsel Independence Protection Act, and S. 1741/ H.R. 4669 the Special Counsel Integrity Act.
1) Let’s call Congressman Smith’s office in D.C. at 202-225-3765…
Caller: Hello, I am a constituent of Rep. Smith’s; may I speak with the staffer who handles government ethics?
I am calling to urge Rep. Smith to cosponsor bipartisan legislation to prevent Special Counsel Mueller from being fired; H.R. 3654 and H.R. 4669.
President Trump has already attempted to order the firing of Special Counsel Mueller, meaning he is not taking seriously Russia’s attempts to interfere in our democracy and undermine our institutions. Trump previously interfered into the investigation into possible collaboration between the Trump campaign and Russia to swing the 2016 election by dismissing James Comey. Congress has a duty to serve as a check on the president, and I feel it is of the utmost importance that the president be prevented from shutting down the investigation for reasons of self-interest. Rep.Smith should also speak publicly to tell the President that firing Mueller would be a red line he must not cross. Thank you.
2) Let’s call our Senators (Booker D.C. 202-224-3224, Newark 973-639-8700; Menendez D.C. 202-224-4744, Newark 973-645-3030)…
Caller: Hello, I am a constituent of the Senator’s; may I speak with the staffer who handles government ethics?
For Menendez: I’m calling because I want Congress to assert its power to prevent Trump from firing Special Prosecutor Mueller. I urge Senator Menendez show his support for protecting Mueller and the investigation by cosponsoring the bipartisan bills which have been introduced to prevent a Mueller firing; S. 1735 and S. 1741. Please ask the Senator to do everything in his power to pass this legislation, and speak publicly to tell the President that firing Mueller would be a red line he must not cross.
For Booker: I’m calling because I want Congress to assert its power to prevent Trump from firing Special Counsel Mueller. Please thank Senator Booker for sponsoring S. 1735, legislation to protect against a Mueller firing. Please also ask the Senator to do everything in his power to pass this legislation, and continue to speak publicly to tell the President that firing Mueller would be a red line he must not cross.
