PROTECT MUELLER & DEMOCRACY!

NOTES:
1) Our next CD4 Meet the Candidate Night is Thurs. Feb. 22 with Josh Welle. Free registration here:
CALL TOPIC:  The Nunes memo is a PR stunt that seeks to undermine Special Counsel Mueller and his investigation into the Trump administration. This fake “memo” could give Trump cover to fire Rosenstein as a way to impede the Mueller investigation, and our MOC should denounce the memo and protect against firing of Mueller or Rosenstein, or obstruction of the investigation.
CALL SCRIPT
1) Let’s call Congressman Smith’s office in D.C. at 202-225-3765…
Caller: Hello, I am a constituent of Rep. Smith’s; may I speak with the staffer who handles government ethics?
I am outraged that Rep. Smith supports the release of the Nunes memo. Both the DOJ and the FBI oppose its release, with the FBI citing “material omissions of fact” that impact the memo’s accuracy. It is a partisan political stunt designed to hurt the Mueller investigation and help Trump escape accountability for his obstruction of justice. I expect Rep. Smith to:
-immediately read the Rep. Schiff memo which was composed to give greater context to the controversial Nunes memo in order to gain a better understanding of the investigation before making accusations against the FBI.
-demand that Speaker Paul Ryan remove Rep. Nunes as chairman of the House Intelligence Committee due to this fabricated scandal.
In addition, I want Rep. Smith to take the following steps to protect the Mueller investigation:
-unequivocally state publicly that if Trump were to fire Mueller or Rosenstein, or otherwise obstruct the investigation, that would be an unacceptable red line.
-cosponsor bipartisan legislation to prevent Special Counsel Mueller from being fired; H.R. 3654 the Special Counsel Independence Protection Act, and H.R. 4669 the Special Counsel Integrity Act.
2) Let’s call our Senators (Booker D.C. 202-224-3224, Newark 973-639-8700; Menendez D.C. 202-224-4744, Newark 973-645-3030)…
Caller: Hello, I am a constituent of the Senator’s; may I speak with the staffer who handles government ethics?
I am opposed to the release of the Nunes memo; it is a partisan political stunt designed to hurt the Mueller investigation and help Trump escape accountability for his obstruction of justice. I urge the Senator to read the Rep. Schiff/Democratic rebuttal memo into the congressional record in order to counter the misinformation of the Nunes “memo.” The Senator should also demand that Speaker Paul Ryan remove Rep. Nunes as chairman of the House Intelligence Committee due to this fabricated scandal.
In addition, I want the Senator to take the following steps to protect the Mueller investigation:
-unequivocally state publicly that if Trump were to fire Mueller or Rosenstein, or otherwise obstruct the investigation, that would be an unacceptable red line.
-cosponsor bipartisan legislation to prevent Special Counsel Mueller from being fired; S. 1735 the Special Counsel Independence Protection Act, and S. 1741 the Special Counsel Integrity Act. (Thank Senator Booker for sponsoring S. 1735).
If you have a personal story to relate to this issue, and are comfortable sharing it, please do – our elected officials want to hear how their policies affect our lives!
