CALL TOPIC: The current CR (continuing resolution) runs out tomorrow, Thursday Feb. 8, and Congress will once again vote on another “must-pass” budget bill to fund the government. McConnell said discussions of the Dreamers bill would begin but it is not scheduled until next week. Other items such as community health centers, disaster relief, Medicare health extenders, and increases to the debt ceiling are also being discussed in conjunction with the budget. If passed, the government would be funded until March 8th, not enough time to help the Dreamers with the March 5th deadline imposed by Trump.
CALL SCRIPT:
1) Let’s call Congressman Smith’s office in D.C. at 202-225-3765
Caller: Hello, I am a constituent of Rep. Smith’s ; may I speak with the staffer who handles Budgetary issues?”
Caller:  I am calling to express my support for the hundreds of thousands of Dreamers whose lives are on the line. I ask Rep. Smith to ensure that a clean DREAM Act is discussed in conjunction with budget talks, and to reject Trump’s demands to include massive, unnecessary spending on border security to the bill.
I urge Rep. Smith to vote AGAINST any budget bill that DOES NOT propose a solution beneficial to the Dreamers in the near future.
I also ask that the Congressman use this opportunity to secure funding for real disaster relief for Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands and community health centers.
2)Let’s call our Senators (Booker D.C. 202-224-3224, Newark 973-639-8700; Menendez D.C. 202-224-4744, Newark 973-645-3030)…
