CALL TOPIC 1:  House vote tomorrow, Thurs. Feb. 15 on HR 620, vote NO!
Title III of the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) requires businesses to proactively remove obstacles that prevent people with disabilities from accessing their establishments. The ADA Education and Reform Act, HR 620, would eliminate all incentives for businesses to proactively ensure their businesses are accessible to people with disabilities. Instead, people with disabilities would have to notify businesses when their rights are violated, forcing them to wait for months or even years while waiting for businesses to decide to comply with the ADA.
CALL SCRIPT 1:
1) Let’s call Congressman Smith’s office in D.C. at 202-225-3765…
Caller: Hello, I am a constituent of Rep. Smith’s; may I speak with the staffer who handles disability issues?
I urge Rep. Smith to oppose and vote NO on HR 620, the ADA Education and Reform Act. It is unacceptable to make individuals with disabilities responsible for ensuring businesses comply with the ADA. This bill goes against the spirit of the ADA and will hinder full access to local businesses for people with disabilities. People with disabilities already face substantial obstacles to full participation in public life even with Title III in place. It would be unacceptable to weaken this provision further.

1) Let’s call Congressman Smith’s office in D.C. at 202-225-3765…
Caller: Hello, I am a constituent of Rep. Smith’s; may I speak with the staffer who handles military issues?
I’m calling to ask Rep. Smith to cosponsor H.R. 4982 the Preparedness Before Parades Act, to stop Trump from his dictator style military parade. It would cost the taxpayers millions of dollars and, from respected military veterans to the general public the message has been clear– this is not normal.
2)Let’s call our Senators (Booker D.C. 202-224-3224, Newark 973-639-8700; Menendez D.C. 202-224-4744, Newark 973-645-3030)…
Caller: Hello, I am a constituent of the Senator’s; may I speak with the staffer who handles military issues?
I’m calling to ask the Senator to cosponsor S. 2408, Senator Cardin’s bill to stop Trump from his dictator style military parade. It would cost the taxpayers millions of dollars and, from respected military veterans to the general public the message has been clear– this is not normal.
